the one where the bestie turns 30

Today is my best friends 30th birthday!
To celebrate this milestone birthday,
I threw her a backyard birthday bash this past Saturday.
The theme was blue & green chevron.

The bestie's favorite dessert is red velvet.
The star of the party was the dessert table.
It, of course, had a red velvet theme.
I baked a red velvet cheesecake cake, red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese filling, red velvet brownies with white chocolate buttercream, red velvet cake donuts, and red velvet white chocolate chip cookies.
Red Velvet EVERYTHING!

It ended up being a fabulous party!
Great food, great music, and, most importantly, great friends!

Get ready for a picture overload.
Unfortunately, in all the madness Saturday, I forgot to charge my camera.
So, all of the pics are from cell phones and the quality is not that great.

plans, plans

As I mentioned in my last post, I am planning a baby shower for my sister.
It is in 3 weeks and I feel like I still have about 2,432,198 things to do.
The theme of the shower is Dr. Seuss' One Fish, Two Fish.
Instead of doing typical finger foods, I am doing a dessert bar and candy table.
I am going to have little Chinese takeout boxes for people to fill with candy and take home as favors.
I had some amazing invitations custom designed by the fab Posh 'n Chic Prints.

 Aren't they just adorable?!

I have also done a lot of crafty stuff for the shower.
I made a sign the sis can hang above the baby's bed.
I did not want the girls to feel left out so I made them one too.
I am going to use them as decorations at the shower.

I think they look very Seussian and they were super easy to make.
I purchased all of the materials from Hobby Lobby.
Love that place!!
And then painted the boards and letters to match my decor.
It only took about 3 hours to do all three.
The circles took the longest because I had to apply several coats.

I am getting close to having everything ready for the shower.
The invitations went out last Friday so there is not backing out now;)

Does anyone have any suggestions for shower games that are not super cheesy??

it's party time

Last Saturday I threw a birthday party for my best friend, A. And it was a major success. The party was not extravagant, it was just a simple get together with some of our closest friends. I was a little worried because I did not really plan any games or anything (we are just not game people). But there was no reason to be worried everyone had a great time. In fact, we were ready to shove people out the door;) Not really, but the party did last a lot longer than we expected it too. We had some very yummy food and a delicious red velvet cake. She got a lot of great gifts and it was fun to just hang out. Just a little insight into A,she LOVES presents, I mean like a five year old at Christmas. So, everyone tortured her a little bit by telling her she had to wait unit Wednesday(her actual bday) to open her gifts. It was pretty funny!

Here are a few pics of the fun times....
