weekend update

This weekend was pretty boring on the blog front.
I was in hurry up and unpack ALL OF THE BOXES mode.
I have friends coming to stay with me this week
and as of Friday I still had more than half of my stuff in boxes,
in the living room.
I am happy to report that everything has been unpacked and put in it's correct place for now.
I still have a few last minute touches to finish ...
mostly decorating things.

The most exciting thing that happened was our Avett Brothers tickets arrived.
I am beyond excited to see them in concert!

snow days & moving days

I know it is old news now,
but last week it snowed in Georgia!
And I am terribly grateful that I do not live in Atlanta.

Tuesday the university closed at Noon
and we had all day Wednesday off as Snow days.
Yay for a day and a half off work!

Remember me mentioning that I was moving into a new apartment this weekend?
Well, since I got off work early Tuesday ...
and so did most of my friends ...
I thought it was a brilliant idea to move all of my stuff Tuesday,
in the freezing rain, instead of Saturday when it was 60°.

I know, I know ... I am a genius!

Good news!
I got all of my stuff moved in 3 hours.
Bad news!
I owe all of my friends, big time.
If I even still have friends. ;)

A small sampling of the boxes
the only place to sit in the apartment at that time!
Oh, and about that snow day.
My little city did not really get any snow.
We got just a small dusting Wednesday morning that had pretty much melted by 10am.
We did get quite a bit of ice though.
ice

lots and lots of ice

proof it snowed

look really close & you'll see more snow
I was so jealous of everyone's snow pictures on Facebook!
My sister and Aunt sent me snow pictures from the farm ... that is 250 miles south of me!

In other apartment related news, I have gotten a lot of stuff unpacked and put in it's proper place.
Not that you can tell by the amount of boxes left to be unpacked.
I do have 2 rooms completely finished, my bathroom and my library.
Priorities, people!

I seem to be cursed with small bathrooms.
The past 3 places I have lived have had tiny bathrooms and I have had to come up with creative storage solutions.
I love one of the solutions I came up with for the new apartment ... hanging crates.

D and I found these handmade crates at a local antique store.
I just love them! And they are the perfect place for towels & wash rags.
D had racked up a ton of brownie points over the last week.
I know he is more ready than I am for my apartment to be completely unpacked!

sayonara...

...crazy college apartment complex!!

After a LONG weekend, we have officially moved in to our new house!
I will have to post pics later this week because internet has not been connected at the new house yet.

Goodbye to:
drunken college parties that last until dawn
upstairs neighboors that apparently only know how to stomp
loud music playing at all hours of the night
having to testify in the eventual murder trial involving the couple from 724B
{seriously just break up already}
the streetlight directly in front of my bedroom window
the worst apartment management company I have EVER dealt with

*sigh*

I already love the new place!

I had a pretty eventful start to the moving process.
I will never use U-Haul again.
I reserved a truck over a month before the move.
They were supposed to contact me within 24 hours of the pick up time to let me know where to pick up the truck.
Well, that 24 hour deadline came and went without a call.
So, there ensued an ENTIRE day on the phone with U-Haul.
Eventually, I was told my reservation was guaranteed and that someone WOULD definitely be calling me with the specific details.

A little side note.
If we were not out of our apartment by Noon on Saturday then we all 3 had to pay a penalty equal to 2 months rent.
That is $2,700.00.
This is why it was imperative that we get the U-Haul by 10am.

Well, 9am Saturday morning rolls around and I still had not heard from them.
I called and explained the situation to the customer service lady.
I was trying my best not to be rude but seriously they are a national corporation.
She said she would give me a call back when she found out something.
Never heard from her!!

I decide to just go the one of the U-Haul places in town.
The gentleman there told us that our reservation was never scheduled.
By this point, I am ready to blow a gasket.
But the guy here is really nice and is going out of his way to try and help us.
He did not have any U-Haul trucks that would fit our reservation, but he did have a truck that he rented out personally that he let us get for a way better price!!

So, everything worked out with the truck.
We got everything moved out of the apartment and had our keys turned in by 11:30!
We spent all day yesterday unpacking.
The entire house is now unpacked and in order.
There are only a few pictures left to hang.

And let me tell you, I thoroughly enjoyed the silence last night!!!
It made me want to do a happy dance!

randomness

I FINALLY finshed summer semester on Friday!
Of course, that meant an all-nighter to finish my research paper.
But it was totally worth it.
I made A's in both of my classes this summer!!

Friday afternoon I drove to the farm to visit the family.
My sis is 5 months along now!
I had a little "talkin' to" with the peanut and told him that under no circumstances was he allowed to make his grand entrance until I could be there for it;)
You think that will work at all!
I just noticed that I put "he" all through that sentence.
We actually do not know the gender yet because apparently the stubborn gene is very strong.
She has another ultrasound on Aug 5th so hopefully we will know then!

On Saturday, I had a girls' day out with my sis and my two beautiful nieces!
We had lunch, did some shopping, got our nails done, and ate ice cream.
We had a fab time!!
After we got home, I let the girls ride the horse for the first time.
I thought my sister would be a little nervous about them riding but she had complete trust in me.

It was a little funny.
My oldest niece, W, is horse CRAZY.
I mean she has every horse book ever written, horse pendants, horse posters on her walls...you get my drift.
And the younger one, C, likes horses okay but she is more of a doll kind of girl.
Well, C had a blast; I had to basically pry her off of the horse!
But W was really nervous.
I was SUPER proud of her though.
Even though she was nervous she still got on and rode him.
After a little while she was a little more comfortable!
I am actually thinking about getting them both riding lessons for Christmas.
I am the only one in my family that rides and I do not get down there enough to teach them.

I left the farm Sunday afternoon and decided to stop and get a hotel for the night.
I am one of those people that need alone time to properly function as a human being.
After this crazy semester and being cooped up in a house with 3 other women,
I needed a break.
The roomies were not expecting me home until Monday.
I did not tell anyone where I stopped and I put my cell on vibrate and just enjoyed the silence of being all by myself for a blissful 24 hours!!

We are moving into our new house this weekend!!!
I am ready to be out of this apartment complex.
I am not looking forward to packing and especially not looking forward to moving in South GA heat.
So, this week will consist of work and packing. Fun times;)
But I cannot wait to get into the new place!
