i wish you enough...

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

I wish you enough...in 2010.
Happy New Year!

reading is bliss!

My favortie thing to do when I have a break from school is read! My brothers think I am crazy. But during the semester I really cannot do any fun reading. They say their is no such thing as "fun" reading. Sadly, I did not pass on my love of reading to them. This break I have already devoured ten books. I have about fifteen more to go. I keep adding more books to my "to read" stack. Books-A-Million is pretty much my home planet! Are any of you reading any good books right now?

the day after...

We had a quiet and low key Christmas, which I think suited us very well this year. The first set of holidays are over so hopefully next year will be a little bit easier. Hopefully, everyone had a great time yesterday with friends and family!

the sing off

Did anyone else watch The Sing Off? I was hooked the first night. I have never really watched American Idol...*gasp* I know I am probably the only person in America who does not watch it. But this show was fantastically awesome! It is amazing what people can do with just their voice.

excuse me mr tv exec...why??

Some of my favorite TV shows have been prematurely cancelled. Making me wonder what goes through the mind of TV executives. Most of these shows were never given the chance to make their mark. The DVD sales of these shows prove that they were awesome! I know there are many more shows I could put on this list but these were my favs!

What are some of your favorite shows that have been cancelled?

yay chipotle! and shoes!

We had a blast yesterday. We decided to go to Jacksonville because it is a shorter drive than Atlanta. I told them I did not care where we go as long as I got Chipotle. And I did. And it was delicious!

Then we went shopping! Well, more like window shopping...since all three of us are broke college students! But I did get some awesome new shoes! They were on sale and I decided to reward myself for making all A's this semester. I am not much of a high heel girl. I always look at the high heels in shoe stores and dream a little bit over some of them. I just cannot walk in them but I do love my converse! The majority of my shoe collection is flip-flops but when it gets too cold for those I am a converse and boot girl. You know the whole week that it is cold in south GA!

It has been raining a lot here lately. So I have been wanting to buy some rain boots. It takes me forever to make up my mind. So here a few that I am waffling between.
Any suggestions?

I am just worried that the light color will get dirty very quickly.

really cute funky design
These are really retro and I love them!

these again have a lighter base but are totally cute!

julie & julia

I just watched Julie & Julia and it was fantastic! I had heard mixed reviews from my friends, actually more of the people I talked to did not like it. But I loved it. I really liked the way the two stories were blended. It was really easy to follow and not confusing at all. Meryl Streep really brought Julia to life and Amy Adams was just so real as Julie.

I love to cook. At one point I even considered culinary school. But I could not imagine cooking 524 recipes in 365 days...especially French recipes, while writing a blog about it. I remember watching Julia Child's show every Saturday on PBS. So, this movie really resonated with me. While looking at my numerous cookbooks tonight I realized that I do not have a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, I must rectify this situation at once! I really want to try some of the recipes in the movie. The movie also made me realize how boring my blog must be. So, I want to say thank you to the few people who regularly read my blog and I will try to be more interesting. But I think I am a fundamentally boring person;)

Have a happy Sunday!

woooo-hoooo!!!!!

I am FINALLY finished with this semester! I just submitted my last final! I am going tomorrow to sell my books back and get approximately $20 for $300 worth of books...but that is college for you. My roomies and I are taking a day trip to Atlanta Sunday!! We are going to eat at my favorite restuarant...Chipotle! ***I am trying to petition Chipotle to bring one to Savannah*** And we are going shopping and basically just releasing semester stress. It is going to be a ton of fun even if it is a 4 hour drive one way. I am already making road trip cd mixes! :D

6 more days...

Only six more days and I will be finished with this semester! I still have one big project, one assignment, one test, and four finals until I am through...whew...when I put it like that I do not see how I am going to get it all finished in six days. I should really get off the internet and get to work;) I will probably not be blogging in the next week but I will still be reading your blogs. I am a master procrastinator and at the end of every semester I vow to NEVER procrastinate again...where do I go wrong!!

...thankfulness...

I am thankful for:
  • my family. we have been through a lot this year and it really makes you appreciate how short life really is. give your fam a little extra love today!
  • my friends. we have such a blast together and we are always there for each other. they are my chosen family and I love them dearly.
  • my relationship with God. I strive to walk in His will daily and even when I fail which is quite often i know He is always with me and will always love me!
  • my education. I am sick of school right now but I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to get an education. I know for some people that is not a possibility.
  • my blogging friends. your comments make my day...seriously! I love getting to know all of you and I pray for each of you everyday.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

...a different christmas poem...

A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight..

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice.. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

" So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son..."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

I received this poem in a forward today. I have read it many times before and every time I do it gets to me. I do not know who wrote it so I cannot give proper credit. Remember our military and their families this holiday season and keep them in your prayers.

**I hope you all like my new look! I am still pretty new to the blogging world and I cannot figure out how to change the font color on my previous posts...oh well!

2012=awesomeness!

I had today off from work and despite having 4 assignments due tomorrow night, I decided to go to the movies. YAY! I really wanted to see 2012 and it is just one of those movies that you have to see in the theater. So after my post earlier this week, I decided to just forget all of my homework assignments for a few hours and go enjoy a movie. I went to the matinee and there were only 3 other people in the theater so it was like my own private screening. I love when that happens! I just want to say it was completely worth it. The movie was awesome! I am a big fan of "end of the world" movies and this one greatly exceeded my expectations. I have been disappointed lately by the end of the world genre....ummmhmmm...Knowing, that was just a weird movie. But 2012 had all of the classic elements and great actors. I love John Cusack and Amanda Peet together! I may even see two movies in less than a week. My best friend and her sis want to go see New Moon on Sunday afternoon and I just cannot get into that craze. So I am probably going to go see Blindside while they are watching New Moon. But I may go to Savannah instead....ahh, decisions, decisions!

Do any of you have big plans this weekend?

...movie slump...

I am a huge movie buff. I love the whole experience of going to the movies. Sadly, I have not been to the movies in 3 months. Not because I have not wanted to go but because I am SO busy with school and work. I just do not have the time to go. Here are just a few of the movies that I am dying to see. Some of them I will have to wait for the DVD and the others I am going to try my best to make it to the theater.

What have been some of your favorite movies so far this year?

happy veterans day

A Nation's Strength

Walt Whitman

Not gold, but only man can make
A people great and strong;
Men who, for truth and honor's sake,
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly --
They build a nation's pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.

Thank you to all of our servicemen & women and to the families that support them!
Words cannot express our sincere gratitude, because of your sacrifice we are free.

...the big cut...

I have not had a real haircut in about 5 years and even then it was not too short. I had one really bad haircut in middle school and have been a little leary of major haircuts since then. But I finally got up the courage to cut it yesterday. I am donating it to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program; they donate wigs to cancer patients. I was a LITTLE nervous about cutting all of my hair off. But I really like my new cut and it is SO much easier to manage. Here are the before & after pics...hope you like it!

weekend recap

This weekend was fairly busy. My best friends parents, Uncle J & B came to visit. We always have a great time when they visit. They got in Friday night and we had fajita lasagna for supper and then sat around the table for 2 hours just talking and laughing. At one point we all were in tears from laughing so much. Saturday we went to a local seafood festival. I had a funnel cake with extra powder sugar...YUMMY! great lunch, huh!  And the fam enjoyed the seafood. I have never been a big seafood person. We walked around all of the craft booths and admired the creativity of people. Sunday we went to church and Uncle J & B got back on the road. After church we filmed the final scene for a short movie my friends and I are making! That is a subject for another post. Then I had a management test I had to take...hmm...not so fun.

What did you do this weekend?

it's party time

Last Saturday I threw a birthday party for my best friend, A. And it was a major success. The party was not extravagant, it was just a simple get together with some of our closest friends. I was a little worried because I did not really plan any games or anything (we are just not game people). But there was no reason to be worried everyone had a great time. In fact, we were ready to shove people out the door;) Not really, but the party did last a lot longer than we expected it too. We had some very yummy food and a delicious red velvet cake. She got a lot of great gifts and it was fun to just hang out. Just a little insight into A,she LOVES presents, I mean like a five year old at Christmas. So, everyone tortured her a little bit by telling her she had to wait unit Wednesday(her actual bday) to open her gifts. It was pretty funny!

Here are a few pics of the fun times....

umm...accounting...no thanks!

****warning: this post is full of venting!***I am not one to complain about school much. I mean it is what it is. And when you have been in college as long as I have, you kind of know what to expect. But I am taking accounting this semester and it is kicking my butt. It does not help that this is an online course. I think I would be grasping the concepts a little better if I were in a classroom setting. I took my first acct test this Sunday and it took me 51/2 hours to finish it. Can you believe that? It has NEVER taken me that long to take a test and I have taken the LSAT, GMAT, and completed one year of law school. And it was not just me that took that long. I spoke to several of the people in the class and most of them took longer than I did to complete it.  Now that is just ridiculous. I mean this is not the only class we have this semester. I do not think a professor should be able to give a test online that students would not be able to complete in a regular classroom setting. Ugh...sorry this post is a downer. On a better note, I am planning an awesome bday party for my best friend! I will blog about it later! I hope everyone is having a spectacular week!

decisions, decisions

I am super excited about Halloween this year. Growing up we did not celebrate Halloween, so I have never dressed up before. I know! Hard to believe, right? My college group at church is having their 2nd Annual Fall Fest this year and we get to dress up. YAY! I was in Chicago last year so I did not get the chance to participate and I would look at everyone's pics and be super jealous. I have been thinking about my costume for 3 months. I had narrowed the choices down to Princess Leia or Queen Amidala. I do not know what was with the Star Wars theme. But I think I have finally decided to be Princess Leia. I have long brown hair, so it seemed like a perfect fit. I cannot wait!

Are you doing anything fun for Halloween? Any fun costume ideas?

things change

Life is full of little changes. Some we do not even notice and others, well, are hard to accept. I am in the midst of one of those hard to accept changes right now. Change is a good thing. We all need change in our lives to keep us from becoming stagnant and to grow. But it is sort of like being forced to eat your veggies as a kid. You know they are good for you but they just do not taste as good as chocolate. My brain knows that what is happening is excellent, really! My heart on the other hand is just a little reluctant to deal with it. And in the bigger picture, it is not that big of a change at all. It is on the periphery of my life and does not really pertain to me at all. This time has been a wake-up call to me. It has helped me realize and appreciate the people who mean the most to me.

I hope everyone is having a great week. Sorry it has been so long since my last post. Grad school and work are slowly killing me.  Is it December yet?:)

college football...yay!

The only NFL I really watch is the Super Bowl. But I love college football, particularly...Florida State. Go Noles! Their first game is tonight against Miami. Hopefully we will crush them! I am spending this Labor Day catching up on school work and just being fairly lazy. I am grilling lemon pepper chicken and baking potates tonight for a few of my friends. I hope everyone is having a relaxing Labor Day! I cannot wait for fall weather!

singing in the rain

Sometimes a rainy day is an excuse to lay back, relax, curl up with a good book, and just enjoy a lazy day! While I have been trudging through mounds of schoolwork; I have been thinking of things I would rather be doing on this rainy day.
  • curl up w/ a good book, a cup of coffee, & visit another world
  • have a movie marathon...maybe Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter
  • bake cookies...my roomies would be very grateful
  • wander around a museum
  • make grilled cheese sammys and veggie soup...yummy
  • take a few snapshots of the storm & slick streets
  • take a long and uninterrupted nap
  • revel in the rain...put on rain boots, splash in puddles, & dance in the rain
  • get a massage...a perfect way to relax
What are some things you like to do on rainy days?

i<3 creed!

I am totally/over the moon/completely/super excited about Creed reuniting! {can you tell} It has been 6 long years without any new Creed music. Alter Bridge was good, but it just was not the same. I know A LOT of people hate Creed, but they were my absolute favorite band in high school. I cannot wait to get the new CD! Hopefully I will get to see them in concert when they are in Atlanta...{fingers-crossed}

I would rather be at the beach today than buried under piles of schoolwork...
Here are a few of my beach pics...

whistle while you work

This weekend was exhausting. I am finally completely moved in to my new apartment...YAY! Just to clarify; I HATE moving. If I had the finances I would just buy everything new, clothes and all. But I was so proud of myself; I had everything moved in AND unpacked in one day. Granted it was a really long Saturday but I slept very well knowing everything was done. I could not have done it without all of my friends' help. They worked tirelessly getting everything into the apartment. I received a gift certificate for an hour massage for my birthday and I am definitely taking advantage of that this week. Classes started today and I am relieved that I can focus on them and not worry about unpacking when I get home from work tonight!
