is it november yet?!

I apologize for being such a bad blogger and commenter.
{I did warn you though} :)
I am trying to stay on top of reading all of the blogs in my reader.
I just do not have the time to comment on all of them:(

But I HAD to take the time to share this little bit of awesomeness!!

I cannot wait!

Anybody else as excited as I am about the last movies?!

long 4 weeks...

Term B is going to be a LONG 4 weeks!
I have probably mentioned before that I loathe online classes.
You do triple the work and do not learn anything.
I would much rather have to actually go to class every night.
If you have not guessed yet my class this term is online.
I am taking International Business.
I did not want to take this class online but that is the only way they offered it.
Now, I am actually getting a concentration in Int'l Business.
So, this class should be a piece of cake, right?!

Well, it would be if the prof was not trying to fit all of the material of a regular semester into FOUR WEEKS.
In 4 weeks, we have:
10 quizzes
2 negotiations
3 small papers
1 20-pg research paper
& any "extra" assignments necessary

That does not seem like a terrible amount of stuff until you see what actually goes into those assignments.
For 1 quiz we have to read 3 chapters, go over corresponding powerpoints w/ audio, & watch 2-4 videos.

So, if I drop off the face of the blogging world for the next 4 weeks just know that I am literally glued to my computer.
But the one GREAT thing about summer term is that it is ONLY 4 weeks.
So, in 28 days this class will be over!!!
{I am not promising to be a very nice person during those 28 days though!}

This is how I feel somedays...then I remember I hate public speaking;)

weekend randomness

A-Team was AMAZING!
I will definitely be buying it on DVD.
And I am almost tempted to go see it again in theaters.
Which I never do.

We had a great time in Savannah yesterday.
Uncle J enjoyed spending time with us,
but I think he enjoyed getting a free steak more;)
I got him Battlestar Galactica 4.5 for Father's Day.
I am the only one of his girls that appreciates sci-fi

This afternoon I baked homemade cinnamon rolls.
It was A LOT of work,
2 hours of work to be exact
but so worth it!
They were delicious and enormous.

Sadly, this will be the last fattening yummy food that I can bake for a while.
We have really fallen off of the exercise and eat right wagon.
So tomorrow starts the new plan.
And, because of my schedule, I have to workout in the mornings:(
I am NOT a morning person and I HATE to exercise.
I do not think this is going to be a good combination.

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend!

short break

Term A is officially over!!
I took my final last night.
I do not think I did that well on it but all of my other grades in that class are A's so I am not too worried.

We had a group case study due last night as well.
And my team and I actually derived a formula.
I never thought those words would ever apply to me.
But we derived a necessity rating for which airplane parts to stock.
All I have to say is we definitely deserve an A!!
We were joking around about selling the formula to Boeing or Gulfstream.;)

We were working on the formula in a study room that had glass walls,
so we know we were freaking out the undergrads.
We were tempted to put a sign on the window saying "sophomore study room"
just to mess with the freshmen minds.
But we all decided that would be a LITTLE mean!

Term B starts Monday so I have a wonderfully, long 3 day break.
I still have to work Friday and Saturday, but at least I do not have to worry about homework!
The BFF's family is visiting this weekend for Father's Day.
Tonight we are going to see A-Team!
I am so excited!!
Then tomorrow after work we are going to Savannah
and taking Uncle J to Longhorn.

I plan on doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING after church on Sunday.
Maybe I will read a book, watch a movie, or even just take a nap.

What are your weekend plans?

career girl!

Well, yesterday thoroughly sucked.
So, today I wanted to share some happy news!

The BFF officially has a "real" job.
Apparently. the jobs she had while she was in school were fake;)
She is now a processing counselor for the
GSU Department of Financial Aid!

She has her own office, nameplate, and most importantly of all...
an actual salary!
No more getting paid by the hour.
I ♥ giving presents!
So, I got her a leather portfolio as a "congrats on your first real job" present!
She does not actually start until Monday.
But she has actually worked in the office for 2 years already as a Graduate Assistant.
Which is a real advantage for her because she pretty much knows how to do the majority of her job duties.

She was super worried about not finding a job after she graduated.
This is not the job she wants to stay in forever;
but it is really good experience and will look great on a resume!
For purely selfish reasons, I am glad she got the job.
I took over her graduate assistantship
and it is nice to be able to go to my BFF when I have questions!

remembering

I cannot believe it has been a year.
One year ago today the man who stood in as my dad, Uncle D, passed away.
I know they say the first year is the hardest.
I think Aunt J, the boys, and I have all coped fairly well.
It helps knowing he had a relationship with Jesus and
that he is not in any pain in heaven.
But we really miss him here.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord

standing in the gap

Have you ever heard a sermon that really just touched your heart?
That is what this morning's message was like for me.
Pastor T was talking about "standing in the gap."
Standing in the gap means to go before God on others' behalf.
In order to stand in the gap you need to be faithful, unselfish, and persistent.
Faithful in believing God's will is best.
Unselfish in our motives for praying for others.
And persistent in our prayers by not giving up when things do not happen on our time table.
We all have a tendancy to just pray for the people in our circle,
but we need to develop a city-view, country-view,
even a world-view when it comes to lifting others up in prayer.
One thing that really convicted me was when the Pastor pointed out that this means that we also need to stand in the gap for our "enemies."
You know how there are just those people who rub you the wrong way?
And when something bad happens you think, "Well, what comes around, goes around," or "They are getting what they deserve."
This is where my toes started hurting;)
We are not supposed to think this way.
We are supposed to pray that God would bless them just like we do for our family.
Sometimes that is just REALLY hard to do.
Especially with those few people who live to make others miserable,
but God loves them just like he does everybody else.

I do not think I can really convey just how much this message convicted me and made me evaluate my prayer life.
I used to be one of those people that stood in the gap.
But somehow over the past few years, I have gotten into the horrible pattern of coming to God with a to-do list or "saving" the last 5 minutes before I go to sleep to actually pray.
I make excuses about being busy with school and work.
But that is all they are...excuses.
Prayer does not have to be complicated.
Prayer is anytime we spend with God.
There does not even have to be words;
He knows our hearts better than we do.
I am going to be working on my prayer life and hopefully become one of those that stands in the gap for others again.
If you have made it to the end of this post, thank you!
I hope that I made a little bit of sense and that you were blessed by it.

Possibly the Greatest Prof EVER!

I am taking Operations Management for Competitive Advantage this term.
Sounds fun, right?!
Suprisingly,  it has been my favorite class so far in the grad program.
It probably helps a lot that the professor for this class is one of the best.
He makes the subject interesting.
And he does not care about memorizing he wants us to actually understand the concepts.

Well, part of the reason for the title of this post is because of our midterm exam.
The midterm consisted of an in-class portion worth 40% of the grade and a take-home portion worth 60%.
Now the in-class portion was a doozy.
I am usually a fast test taker and it took me an hour and 45 minutes to answer 24 questions.
But I think I did really well on it!!!
The take-home exam was a different story all together.
We had 2 days to complete it and it was open-book and untimed!
Even better, he actually told us which chapters the questions came from.
I am talking about specifics, like questions 1-20 can be found in chapter 1, etc.

Yeah, if anyone fails the take-home part they REALLY are not even trying.
I may actually specialize in operations management because of this class.

weekend fun♥

I had a fabulous and relaxing weekend!
After work on Saturday, the BFF & I met up with some friends for a girls' lunch.
We were supposed to grill out but decided that was just too much work so we ate out instead.

Then we went to the pool.
I got in some much needed relaxation!
We were there about 3 hours and I was in the pool the entire time.
The purpose of going to the pool was to layout, but I love the water and it was just too hot to sit beside the water when I could be IN the water;)

Then the BFF & I went and got pedicures.
We tried a new place here in town.
And let me tell you it was heaven.
They put hot towel wraps on your legs.
***sigh***
They could have charged me just for that!

Then we came home and I watched the repaly of the Belmont Stakes.
Congrats Drosselmeyer and jockey Mike Smith!
I hate that I missed it but the pedi was totally worth it.

finally friday!

I am glad this week is over.
I think I did okay on my test.
I never think I do well on tests but usually do.
I still have the take-home portion to complete
but that is open book so I am not too worried about it.
Hopefully next week will not be quite as busy.

I did wind up making a Georgia peach cobbler last weekend.
And it was delicious!!
I am making another one for a cook out we are having tomorrow with the girls.
I think this may become my go to summer dessert!

Have a fabulous weekend!

pfft...presentation. piece. of. cake!

I had a group presentation tonight in class.
And let me just say...
We. KILLED. It.

I get so nervous before any kind of public speaking,
like to the point where my pulse is racing so fast I think I am going to faint.
But this was worse because we only had a few days to prepare
and we could not use note cards during the presentation.
Three groups presented tonight and I know I am a little biased
but I think our group was the best.

On a completely different note, today was an interesting day at Financial Aid.
We were crazy busy.
It was like the first day of fall semester.
The phones were ringing off the hook.
As soon as I hung up the phone it would ring.
I do not think the phone left my hand once in 5 hours today.
Even the counselors, who have worked there for years, said they had no idea why it was so busy today.

This week is going to be a super busy week.
 I had my presentation tonight.
I have a big assignment due tomorrow night.
{which I should be working on instead of blogging}
And I have a midterm Thursday night.
Ummm, yeah, grad school during the summer is trying to kill me.
