the ranch pt 3

My favorite part of the entire trip was the
2-hour trail ride we took through the
"mountains" on the ranch.
In Georgia, our trail rides are going down dirt roads.
This was definitely a new experience on the back of a horse for me.
But it was exhilirating!
The horses were navigating cliffs that were
narrower than my FOOT
and going up & down some pretty steep hills.
My adrenaline was working overtime.
I keep repeating the mantra:
trust the horse, trust the horse.
I had a really fantastic horse in Ronan.
He was a little bit of a bully and he did not
like following so he would
try pushing other horses out of the way.
But I like a strong-willed horse!

All of the following pictures were taken while I was on
horseback!
That's all I'm saying;)

the ranch pt 2

The ranch is about 40 miles NW of Amarillo.
Cadillac Ranch is in Amarillo.
Therefore, it was imperative that we tag some Cadillacs!

Mother nature was working against us with all of the wind.
Spray paint + wind = difficulties
However, we persevered and made our
mark on the world some really nifty cars!

 {just for the blog!}

the ranch pt 1

We packed a ton of stuff into the 3 days
we were at the ranch.
So, I am splitting it up into a few posts.

The ranch was more like a small town.
It has its own post office and schools.
Needless to say, it is ginormous!
We probably did not see even half of it.

They have an old cemetery from the Wild West Days.
How cool is that?!

Boot Hill Cemetery

There is also a museum on the ranch.
Have I mentioned that I love museums?
Give me a place full of old antique stuff and
I will be happily entertained!

All of the books in this case were published before 1900. SWOON!

They have a cliff on the ranch
that they call "the edge of the world."
We went at dusk.
We wanted to be there at sunset but
were just a little late.
Most of the pics I took were
not that great because of the lighting;
but here are a few that were presentable.

The cliff overlooks part of the ranch and the river that runs through it. {haha}
It was gorgeous!
While we were up there a train went by in the distance
which was cool!
The trail to the cliff was pretty rough terrain
so we all had to be really careful
about not sliding off the cliff.
Yeah that would not have been good;)
Well, I am not exactly known for my grace and cat-like skills.
I did make it safely to the cliff.
However, going back up was a different story.
I tripped right as we reached the top of the hill!
Luckily, there were no injuries just proof positive that my clumsiness is epic.

the food

We ate our way across the country;)
{so it seems}
I have this nifty app on my phone
called Urbanspoon.
We used it to find some excellent places to eat.

No trip is complete without a stop at Chipotle.
This was in Montgomery, AL.

Excellent creole restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas.

3/4 of the group order the shrimp & grits.
I am not a fan of shrimp so I was not one of them.
However, I did try the grits and they were AMAZING.
 Great local hangout in Oklahoma.

 This place was awesomely tacky!
Amarillo, TX

 You just gotta love Texas!

Mothers in NOLa lived up to its reputation.

Three of us wound up sharing this and we still did not finish it!

We had beignets for supper while we were in New Orleans.
Totally worth the calories!

Tasty Mexican food in Ft. Worth, TX.
I got a chocolate chimichanga and it was delicious!

 Birmingham, AL
This place had the best cheese biscuits.
