the classics

I have a friend who will only read the classics. She says all fiction written in the last 50 years is basically crap. Those were not her exact words but that was the gist of it. I am in the opposite camp. It is no secret that I LOVE to read. And I read anything and everything. I was the nerd in school that read every book on the suggested reading list every year. But our conversation made me think about my favorite classics. My favorite classic author would have to be Jane Austen! It was hard to narrow it down to a few books because there are so many great ones. But here is a tentative list of my favorites.

Jane Eyre~Charlotte Bronte

Mansfield Park~Jane Austen

Gone With the Wind~Margaret Mitchell

The Great Gatsby~F. Scott Fitzgerald

A Separate Peace~John Knowles

To Kill a Mockingbird~Harper Lee

Lord of the Rings~JRR Tolkein

What is your favorite Classic?

  1. Jane Eyre, hands down without a doubt, is my favorite classic. I also love Jane Austen's writings as well, and Anne Bradstreet's poetry. But nothing beats Jane Eyre.

  2. Grapes of Wrath. I just loved that book and I remember being the only one in my HS English class that did, it was one of the AP assigned books over the summer.
