the one where i turn 31

Yesterday was my 31st birthday.
And despite the fact that I had to work,
it was pretty fantastic.
Bday presents from awesome friends
I was in a meeting all day. (blah)
But I did get to leave right when the meeting was over.
Yay for getting off 2 hours early.

D took me to the movies after work.
We saw Ant Man.
It was not as good as the other Marvel movies,
but still fun.

After the movie,
we had ice cream.
Because on you birthday you get to eat dessert first.
It's in the rule book!

Then we ate mexican food for supper.
So, pretty much the perfect night out.
movie + ice cream + spicy stuff = perfection

I had to be at work today,
so we made it an early night in.
But today is my Friday!
I do not have to be back at work until next Tuesday.
D got me a Dancing Groot to add to my office collection.
This Saturday I will be having the "official" birthday dinner,
with an ice cream cake, of course.

Follow me on Instagram for all of the birthday adventures.
Now let's get this work day over with!

Tolkien Reading Day 2014

{source}
Work and life have been CRAZY busy.
Hence, no blogging.
But I couldn't miss one of my favorite reading days of the year.
I already missed Dr. Seuss' birthday!
March 25th is Tolkien Reading Day.
I will be reading The Hobbit today in my very limited down time.
Will you be reading any Tolkien today?

Day 30 - When Did You Become A Fan of Doctor Who?

It is the last day of
March Who Madness!
I have had a lot of fun blogging about
Doctor Who.
Can you believe I actually blogged
every day for a whole month?!
Yeah, neither can I.

I started seriously watching Doctor Who
in 2006 when the Syfy channel
started airing the "new" Who episodes.
I had seen some of the classic Who episodes on Syfy as well.
But I did not become a proper Whovian
until the new episodes.
Syfy actually aired the episodes
well after they were shown in Britain.
For example, they did not start showing
Season 1 (Eccleston's) episodes until 2006
and they originally aired in 2005 in Britain.
This is probably bad to admit;
but when I found that out,
I would watch the newer episodes
(that were available)
on YouTube as they would come out in Britain.
Then I would buy the seasons on DVD as soon
as they were available in America.
I am so glad that BBC America now shows
the new episodes concurrently with the
British airings.

Day 29 - Favorite Guest Star

I absolutely loved
Sophia Myles as Madame de Pompadour.
The Girl in the Fireplace
is one of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who.
It was such a complete story that
left me wanting more.

Day 28 - Favorite gif

I have no clue how to embed a gif
into a blog post;
so,  you will have to click a few times
to actually get to the gif.

Day 27 - Favorite Interview

This is not really an interview
but an episode of a British chat show.
Never Mind the Buzzcocks had a Doctor Who
special hosted by David Tennant
and Catherine Tate & Bernard Cribbins
were guests.
Of course, hilarity ensued!

Day 26 - Favorite Doctor Gadget

Of course, it is the sonic screwdriver.
It seems like it gains
new abilities almost every episode.
But that is part of its charm!

Tolkien Reading Day

I recently discovered that
March 25th
is Tolkien Reading Day.
I have no clue how I have never
heard of this before.

"It all came about because a New York journalist enquired whether there was such a thing as a “Tolkien Reading Day”.
My grandparents were fishing folk from Buckie in the north of Scotland, carriers of the old stories and legends, and the trilogy has filled a certain hole in my life. I have many friends here in New York who were equally moved by the book, reignited by the film, and we all wondered: is there any day devoted informally to readings from the trilogy, in the way that “bloomsday” is devoted to Joyce?
That enquiry was sent to the Tolkien Society in January 2002. The then committee liked the idea and after a certain amount of discussion picked March 25th as “Tolkien Reading Day”. The rest, as they say, is history!
Thank you, Sean."

I read The Hobbit this weekend
and I am now reading Lord of the Rings
I absolutely love these books!
I have read them many, many times
but I always find something new
with every re-reading.

Are you a Tolkien fan?
What is your favorite Tolkien book?

Day 25 - Favorite Doctor Catchphrase

My favorite catchphrase
was Ten's...
Allons-y!

Day 22 - Favorite Friendship

Surprise, Surprise!
My favorite friendship is between
the Doctor & Donna.
They were the best of friends
and had grand adventures.
I also love the fact that David & Catherine
have become great friends in real life.
Well, based on interviews and the fact that
they have worked together many times
since Who.

Day 21- Favorite Couple

Amy & Rory
have the greatest love story on Doctor Who!
I love that their relationship
was not perfect.
But, no matter what, they were
always there for each other.
*sigh*
I need to find me a Rory!
